Leslie Crosby has woven art into her life whenever possible during her years as a career elementary school teacher and brief period as a stay-at-home parent. She was the primary designer in a very small cottage industry making potpourri-filled greeting cards, and she often made art and craft items to sell at local fairs. She was an active member of the Trinidad Area Arts Council, helping create window displays for abandoned Main Street historic buildings, and was instrumental in founding a local children’s museum. She was able to attend a few art classes at Trinidad State Junior College, but still carried the lifelong dream of going to art school. With retirement looming, she decided to begin taking illustration classes at the Denver Botanic Gardens, combining her love of botany and gardening with art. She will graduate with a certificate in Botanical Illustration from Denver Botanic Gardens in November 2017.
